Chapter 1: General Provisions
Article 1 (Purpose)
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern the conditions of use, procedures, and rights and obligations between StudyLess ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") and users of the StudyLess mobile application and related services ("Service").
Article 2 (Definitions)
The terms used in these Terms have the following meanings:
- "Service" means the AI-based flashcard generation and spaced repetition learning services based on the FSRS algorithm provided by the Company.
- "User" means any person who agrees to these Terms and uses the Service.
- "Member" means a User who has entered into a service contract with the Company and created an account.
- "Content" means images, PDFs, text, and other materials uploaded by a Member to the Service, as well as flashcards generated from such materials by AI.
- "AI-generated Content" means flashcards and learning materials automatically generated by AI technologies such as the Google Gemini API.
- "FSRS Algorithm" means a spaced repetition learning algorithm that analyzes a user's learning patterns and automatically generates personalized review schedules.
Article 3 (Effect and Amendment of the Terms)
- These Terms shall take effect when posted on the Service screen or otherwise notified to Users.
- The Company may amend these Terms to the extent not in violation of applicable laws, including the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions and the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce.
- When amending the Terms, the Company will specify the effective date and the reason for amendment and give notice by posting the current Terms together with the amended Terms on the Service screen from 7 days before the effective date until the day before the effective date.
- However, if the amendment is unfavorable to Users, the Company will notify Users at least 30 days in advance and may also provide individual notifications via email, in-app notifications, or other appropriate methods.
Article 4 (Governing Provisions)
Any matters not specified in these Terms shall be governed by applicable laws, including the Personal Information Protection Act, the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions, and general commercial practices.
Chapter 2: Membership Registration and Management
Article 5 (Membership Registration)
- A User may apply for membership by agreeing to these Terms and following the registration procedures prescribed by the Company.
- The Company will register the User as a Member unless any of the following circumstances apply:
- The User provides false information, omits required information, or makes errors in the registration details
- The User is under 14 years of age
- The Company determines that registering the User as a Member would cause significant technical or operational difficulties
- The membership contract is established at the time when the Company's acceptance of the registration reaches the Member.
Article 6 (Termination of Membership and Disqualification)
- A Member may request account deletion at any time through the in-app settings menu, and the Company will process the deletion request without delay.
- Upon account deletion, the Member's account and related data will be permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
- For Members who used "Sign in with Apple," the connection between the Member's Apple ID and the Service will also be terminated upon account deletion.
- The Company may restrict or terminate membership if a Member:
- Registered with false information
- Uses the Service in violation of applicable laws or these Terms
- Interferes with the use of the Service by others or steals others' information
Chapter 3: Use of the Service
Article 7 (Provision of the Service)
The Company provides the following services:
- AI-based flashcard generation (conversion from images/PDFs to flashcards)
- Personalized spaced repetition learning schedules using the FSRS algorithm
- Test preparation mode: optimizing the learning schedule to aim for 90% or higher retention by the specified exam date
- Learning progress tracking and statistics
- Offline review of previously generated flashcards
- Other services determined by the Company
In principle, the Service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, the Service may be temporarily suspended due to system inspections, technical issues, or other unavoidable circumstances.
As of the Effective Date above, all services are provided free of charge.
Article 8 (Special Provisions for AI Services)
1. AI-based Flashcard Generation
The Service uses the Google Gemini API to extract text from images and PDFs uploaded by Users and to automatically generate flashcards.
Important notices about AI-generated Content:
- The Company does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated flashcards.
- AI-generated information is provided for reference only and does not constitute educational advice or professional guidance.
- For important exam preparation, Users should always verify AI-generated information against original textbooks or other reliable sources.
- An internet connection is required for AI-based flashcard generation. When offline, Users can only review flashcards that have already been generated.
- Content uploaded by Members (images, PDFs, etc.) is transmitted to Google LLC (United States) for AI processing and may be retained for up to 30 days after processing.
2. Personalized Learning Scheduling (FSRS Algorithm)
The Service uses the FSRS algorithm to analyze each Member's learning patterns in real time and generate optimal review schedules.
Key characteristics of the algorithm:
- Tracks the memory strength of each flashcard individually
- Learns from the Member's response patterns (Again / Hard / Good / Easy) to build a personalized learning curve
- When an exam date is set, adjusts the schedule in order to achieve maximum retention (targeting 90% or higher) by that date
- Continuously improves schedule accuracy based on past learning records
3. Disclaimer for AI Services
Decisions or actions taken based on AI-generated information or AI-generated schedules are entirely at the User's own judgment and responsibility. To the extent permitted by law, the Company is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of AI-generated content or the learning schedules suggested by the algorithm.
Article 9 (Obligations of Members)
Members shall not engage in any of the following:
- Providing false information or omissions when applying for or changing membership
- Stealing another person's identity or account information
- Altering information posted by the Company
- Transmitting or posting information (including computer programs) not authorized by the Company
- Infringing the intellectual property rights (including copyrights) of the Company or third parties
- Damaging the reputation of the Company or third parties, or interfering with their business
- Uploading content that infringes another person's copyright, intellectual property rights, or portrait rights
- Uploading obscene, violent, hateful, or discriminatory content
- Using the Service for commercial purposes (including unauthorized resale)
- Uploading content that contains sensitive personal information (resident registration number, passport number, bank account number, etc.)
- Any other illegal or improper acts
Chapter 4: Copyright and Intellectual Property
Article 10 (Ownership of Rights)
- The copyright and intellectual property rights for the Service are owned by the Company, except for Member-generated content and works provided under separate partnership agreements.
- The copyright for content (including photos, PDFs, and other study materials) uploaded by Members to the Service belongs to the respective Members.
- Members represent and warrant that the content they upload does not infringe any third party's copyright, intellectual property rights, portrait rights, or other rights. Members are solely responsible for any legal disputes or damages arising from such infringement.
- By using the Service, Members grant the Company the right to use uploaded content for the following purposes:
- Generating flashcards via AI and providing the Service
- Analyzing anonymized data for service improvement and feature development
- The Company will not use Members' original content (images/PDFs) as training data for AI models, and Google Gemini will not use data sent via the Gemini API to train its models.
Article 11 (Rights to AI-generated Content)
- The right to use AI-generated flashcards based on the Member's original materials belongs to the Member.
- However, Members may not resell or redistribute AI-generated content for commercial purposes.
- The Company may use anonymized AI-generated content for service operation and improvement.
Chapter 5: Miscellaneous
Article 12 (Disclaimer)
- The Company shall not be liable for failure to provide the Service due to force majeure events, such as natural disasters, war, power outages, or system failures beyond the Company's reasonable control.
- The Company is not responsible for any service interruptions or issues caused by the Member's fault.
- The Company does not guarantee that Members will obtain any particular learning outcome or revenue through the use of the Service.
- The Company is not responsible for the reliability, accuracy, or content of information, materials, or facts posted by Members.
Article 13 (Dispute Resolution)
- The Company will give priority to handling complaints and opinions submitted by Users.
- If a dispute arises in connection with these Terms, the Company and the Member shall make sincere efforts to resolve it through consultation.
- If the dispute is not resolved through such consultation, either party may file a lawsuit with the competent court in accordance with the Civil Procedure Act of the Republic of Korea.
Article 14 (Governing Law)
These Terms and any disputes between the Company and the Member shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea.
Supplementary Provision
These Terms of Service shall be effective as of February 5, 2026.
